Vincent and Caius: The Aerodynamic Qualities of Bricks

"Part of me will always be baffled that those things can fly so well in the air." Said Vincent, a young human artificer looking out at an ancient Precursor Repairer in the distance flying towards the crumbling floating castle he and his Fengar monk companion had just left. "Why are you baffled? You didn't seem all that surprised to see that castle we were at earlier flying in the air." said his Fengar companion Caius slightly amused by his companion's sudden bewilderment. " That castle was just floating in one place. That thing is actually moving and it looks like it having no problem despite looking like a giant building that was never meant to actually fly. It's acting like wind resistance isn't even a thing!" Vincent says as he stops to take a good look at the construct as it passes between the valley, the sun setting in the west. "The air rune etched rings on the wings of the Precurser Repairer are what let it fly with ease. Why are you so baffled by that?" Caius inquired to Vincent.
Vincent remained silent for a moment before answering. "Mittens let me ask you something." He turns to face Caius. "Have you ever thrown at brick at someone?" Caius actually smirked at this line of questioning. "I've thrown boulders at plenty enemy combatants in my time. Why do you ask?" Vincent answers "And that usually killed them right or at the very least hurt them really bad so they could be killed easier." Caius answers "Yes, what are you getting at?" Vincent states "Bricks are heavy and not particularly aerodynamic. You have to put some oomph into throwing those things and they don't stay in the air that long." Suddenly Vincent stops rambling as if his train of thought had shifted entirely.
"Mittens would that repair thingy fall from the sky if those rings were broken." Caius was somewhat taken aback from this shift in the conversation, but was curious to see where it was going. "Probably. What are you thinking of doing Vincent. It took a forever to make that Keeper in the castle call the repair drone to fix the castle. If you want to destroy it just to sate some curiosity your having I can't say I'm on board." Vincent reassures Caius. "That Keeper was a nutjob and the last thing I'd want to do is botch this job, but seeing the way those air rings work has gotten me thinking." Caius inquires "Of what exactly?"
Vincent smiles deviously. "Well remember that town we ran into being being harassed by bandits?" Caius chuckles "That town where you lured those bandits into that barn full of explosives and had me light the fuse." Caius feels a brief wave of nostalgia recalling the screams of those scummy bandits just before they were reduced to ash. " Yep, I remember." Vincent grabs Caius's head and pulls him to his eye level. "Well imagine instead of blowing them up we put an air rune ring around a giant boulder. Then we broke the ring and crushed those bandits like that instead. Wouldn't that been great." Caius sighs "It would have had the same result regardless." Vincent lets go of Caius's head feeling a little disappointed he didn't impress his companion. "It still would have been awesome."
Caius couldn't help, but smile. Vincent tendency to find ways of overdoing things and thinking of new ways to do it was just so endearing. However, his eyes then notice that the sun had set and that the cold would likely start to get to the human. "Come Vincent there's a hot spring at the top of this mountain. I'd rather not have you freeze to death." Caius picked up his companion and put him on his shoulder feeling they would get there faster if Vincent didn't have to walk. "Alright Mittens, nice to know you are looking out for me." Vincent knew that once Caius had decided it was time to move there was no stopping him. "Hey Mittens, maybe we could put a air rune on a brick. We could throw it farther, faster, and it would hit just as hard. Plus we could enchant it to come back to us after we throw it. That way we could use it over and over again." Vincent was stuck on this whole air rune kick walk to the hot spring, but Caius didn't mind. The Fengar wouldn't say it out loud, but he had begun to see this feisty little human as a true friend. One he would do anything for.
